xfps 4.0 force wont work with my laptop

My xfps wont connect with my laptop.
this is what i do
-plugin the xfps in the ps3
-plugin the wired controller in the xfps with the button on controller
-my xfps turns blue
-switch the controller button to pc
-unplug the controller and plugin the usb cable in the xfps and the other end in my laptop
-start running the software on my laptop, and here i get the ERROR can not find xfps. my xfps keeps blinking red

when u plugin the xfps in the laptop do u need to see that new hardware is found ? because i dont see this message
do i need to install drivers on the xfps ?
do i need next to the 1.44 drivers on my laptop another driver ?
can there be a conflict with other programs ?
Can it be that the usb to usb cable is broken ? (but when i only plugin the usb to my xfps, my xfps starts flashing colors so i think the cable works?)
is my xfps broken ?
do i need win7 or is xp enough ?

i really hope someone can help me out
i also tried another laptop and still got the same problem
the controller works fine with xfps, but the laptop just wont connect
