Default ps2 and mega cool vga box

so i purchased this vga box, set everything up and I get picture and sound ok....but I have to say the ps2 display at 1280x720 leaves a lot to be desired here. the jagginess makes me just want to plug it back into an old tv. is this because my monitor's native resolution is 1440x900? is my monitor itself somehow screwing up the display? I am using an LG W1952TQ and the xcm multi console component cable v3.

As far as I can tell, the reasons are 2:

1)Upscaling a video signal, even if it's done flawlessy, its not a perfect operation. And I doubt this VGA does it flawlessy;
2)Feeding to an LCD monitor a non-native signal makes the monitor having to scale it;

There fore your image is being scaled twice, before you even see it.

i guess there's no real solution for ps2 here? i tried it with the wii as well, and it looks pretty craptastic as well. do i have to use a better monitor or was this just a big waste of money?

Well, I haven't really tried the PS2, but my Wii looks pretty decent on my LCD, but I have the old 1080p VGA BOX, which simply converts the signal without changing its resolution. Try to output it from the VGA box as a 480p, and let the monitor do the scaling.

As far as I'm concerned, a CRT would be of much better use. And i still think it looks better on my CRT TV, both using RGB scart or Component.
