Default MegaCool VGA Box + xbox = 480p input issue

I am having an issue with my original xbox being plugged in with 480p input:

The issue is that my monitor appears to cut out to a black screen and back to game play again every few seconds despite which output resolution I use (480p,720p,1600x1200,1080p)

The picture quality with 480p xbox input looks great but this "cutting out" makes it impossible to play anything

Ive tried this with the xbox dashboard as well (hold down left and right triggers + thumb sticks) and same issue

Now, when I i switch to 480i, Everything works on every output resolution.... but 480i upscaled looks terrible (blurry, dark, etc)

Interestingly enough, I have Tony Hawk 4 (a 720p xbox game) and when set to 720p on the xbox dash, it works flawlessly on every output resolution (480p,720p,1600x1200,1080p)

I have tried 3 different LCD monitors and just about 15 xbox games i own (minus 720p enabled Tony Hawk 4) with the exact same conclusion, 480p input goes to a black screen and back again repeatedly.

So the question is, is my 1080p Mega Cool VGA Box a bad unit or is this thing not made to have 480p inputted to it?

I hope i spelled out my problem well enough... PLEASE ASSIST

The main question is does your tv support 480p? Some hdtvs will do 720p and 1080i.

like i said earlier its only when I have 480p enabled on the xbox dashboard in the video display settings. So the 480p signal is being incorrectly upscaled to 720p and 1080i. It works on 480i upscaled to 480p,720p,1080i, but not 480p upscaled to 480p,720p,1080i

Also, Ive tried this on 3 lcd monitors, not Hdtvs as my Hdtv does not have a vga port
