Default VGA vs. SVGA cable, and is VGA input required?

Hi there,

I recently bought a 1080p Megacool unit and had the following questions:

my monitor information:
-HP w2207, native resolution 1680 x1050 @ 60Hz
-computer is connected via DVI connection; computer has open VGA output connection free to use

1) I tested my PS2 and the image is not centered, appears incorrect, and appears low resolution. I have set the PS2 system setting to component and used the XCM cable V3, same used in the instructional video. Is this because my monitor's native resolution is not supported in the list found in the instruction manual? I thought it would be able to be tweaked?

2) Regarding VGA Output connection: Does it matter if I use a VGA cable vs. an SVGA cable?

3) Since I've already have input coming from the component V3 cable, am I still required to connect a VGA (or SVGA) female cable into the "VGA Input" slot on the XCM unit from my computer's video card vga out?
